Police have registered an FIR against 42 individuals, including two identified, for allegedly burning an effigy of controversial priest Yati Narsinghanand and blocking a road in Bareilly city.
Authorities stated that CCTV footage is being reviewed to help identify the unidentified suspects, while two have already been detained in connection with the protests.
The protest was sparked by remarks made by Narsinghanand deemed objectionable against Prophet Muhammad, prompting locals to gather and burn the effigy at Eent Pajaya crossing. The police dispersed the crowd using mild force as the situation escalated outside the station, following demands for the release of those detained.
