Himachal Pradesh's Crackdown on Drunken Driving: A Successful Campaign

In a significant crackdown on drunken driving, Himachal Pradesh Police arrested 478 individuals and issued 1,848 challans during a 15-day state-wide campaign, officials reported on Wednesday.

The rigorous campaign, which checked 84,785 vehicles across various districts, aimed to reduce instances of alcohol-influenced driving, culminating in far more than the usual fortnightly average of 390 challans prior to the campaign's start on September 24.

Director General of Police Atul Verma stated that the heightened enforcement measures, including the suspension of 685 driving licenses, were pivotal in promoting a culture of safe driving and reducing road accidents.
