Sanchez Calls for Global Arms Embargo on Israel
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez condemned Israeli attacks on U.N. peacekeepers in Lebanon and urged the global community to halt arms sales to Israel. Sanchez noted Spain stopped arms sales in October 2023. The incident marks ongoing tensions amid Israel's war on Hezbollah.
In a strong denunciation, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has called for an international embargo on arms sales to Israel, criticizing its military actions against United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon.
Sources confirmed that Israeli forces targeted an observation post used by U.N. peacekeepers, injuring two personnel on Friday — marking the third consecutive day of reported fire from Israel amidst its conflict with Hezbollah in the region. The Spanish Defence Ministry assured that none of the Spanish soldiers in the mission were injured.
Sanchez, following a meeting with Pope Francis, highlighted that Spain ceased arms exports to Israel in October 2023, urging other nations to follow suit to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.
