Bihar Hooch Tragedy: 37 Dead, Multiple Arrests in Liquor Ban Violation

Thirty-seven people died after consuming spurious liquor in Siwan, Saran, and Gopalganj districts of dry Bihar, leading to the suspension of police personnel and arrests of 21 suspects, including seven women. The Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government had imposed a complete alcohol ban in 2016.

In a shocking incident, 37 individuals lost their lives due to consumption of spurious liquor in Bihar's Siwan, Saran, and Gopalganj districts, which have been under a statewide alcohol ban since 2016.

Police have responded with 21 arrests, including seven women involved in the production and supply of the illicit liquor. Among those arrested, authorities uncovered a financial network worth several lakhs tied to the illegal liquor operation.

Local police officials have faced suspension for dereliction of duty, while continuing investigations promise further legal action under money-laundering charges. RJD leader Lalu Prasad criticized the state government's handling of the tragedy.
