In a statement released Monday, Russia's embassy in South Korea clarified that the ongoing cooperation between Russia and North Korea aligns with international law and does not compromise South Korea's security.
However, tensions have risen as South Korea's foreign ministry summoned Ambassador Georgy Zinoviev, expressing discontent over alleged deployments of North Korean troops to Russia for utilization in Ukraine, a development that has prompted calls for a coordinated international reaction.
In a meeting with South Korea's first vice foreign minister, Kim Hong-kyun, Zinoviev and Seoul presented differing views on the underlying causes of tensions on the Korean Peninsula, highlighting the complexities in regional diplomacy.
