South Korea is contemplating directly supplying weapons to Ukraine, a move officials say may counter growing military cooperation between North Korea and Russia. This comes after accusations that North Korea dispatched troops to support Russia in the Ukraine conflict.
The South Korean intelligence agency reported that North Korea sent 1,500 special forces personnel to Russia's Far East, presumably for combat training. In response, a senior official from President Yoon Suk Yeol's office mentioned preparations for diplomatic, economic, and military responses, including potentially supplying Ukraine with lethal weapons if the situation escalates.
The official emphasized that arms for defensive purposes could become a reality, especially if North Korea's military alliance with Moscow threatens regional security. Seoul's National Security Council condemned Pyongyang's actions and announced plans to work with the international community while sending intelligence officials to NATO to enhance information sharing.
