On Tuesday, Naupada police apprehended a man in connection with a hit-and-run accident involving a Mercedes car that resulted in a fatality.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Abhijeet Suresh Nair, surrendered after evading capture for 24 hours, according to police officials.

The victim, 21-year-old Darshan Shashidhar Hegde, was riding his scooter when he was struck by Nair's car, allegedly driven under the influence of alcohol. Nair fled the scene leaving behind his vehicle and later fled using a taxi. Hegde, an aspiring engineering student, succumbed to his injuries at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital.
