The Karnataka High Court has issued an interim stay on legal proceedings against officials and faculty members of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). This move comes after a complaint from Gopal Das, an IIMB associate professor, who alleged caste-based discrimination at the institution.

Justice Hemant Chandanagoudar noted that while the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE) is empowered to prosecute fraudulent caste certificate claims, it cannot investigate harassment allegations. The court provided interim relief to IIMB officials, including Director Prof Rishikesha T Krishnan and others, and scheduled a further hearing for January 2025.

A separate complaint by Das led to the registration of a case against IIMB Director and faculty members under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. Das claimed workplace caste discrimination and harassment. Proceedings against Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty were also earlier stayed by the court.
