A traffic police constable in Maharashtra's Thane district has been detained for allegedly soliciting a bribe from a transporter. Pravin Gopale, 41, was apprehended on Tuesday following a complaint by the victim.

The constable initially requested Rs 700 from the transporter to permit the operation of his pick-up vehicle in Kalyan. He allegedly threatened frequent checkpoints and enforcement actions if the payment wasn't made, eventually lowering his demand to Rs 500.

The victim reported the incident to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Thane, prompting the agency to set up a sting operation. Gopale was caught accepting the bribe, and the ACB is now investigating further.
