CBI Cracks Down on CGST Corruption in Meerut

The CBI arrested Sachin Kumar for accepting bribe money on behalf of CGST officials in Meerut. Superintendent Aftab Singh and Inspector Vikas were booked for soliciting a bribe to resolve tax discrepancies. Raids uncovered documents and cash linked to corrupt practices, prompting a wider investigation.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended an individual allegedly collecting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh on behalf of officials from the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) department in Meerut.

The CBI had already booked Superintendent Aftab Singh and Inspector Vikas of CGST for demanding a Rs 2 lakh bribe to settle issues concerning a businessman's billing discrepancies. Following the complaint, a raid ensued, resulting in the capture of Sachin Kumar red-handed as he accepted a portion of the bribe outside the CGST Meerut Division Office.

Search operations conducted by the CBI at the residences and offices of the accused in Meerut have led to the discovery of incriminating documents and cash, signifying possible broader corrupt practices within the department.
