Punjab Assembly's Special Session: Key Legislative Moves Announced

Punjab Assembly's special session will be held on February 24-25 to address pending bills. The session precedes a budget meeting scheduled for March. Key Cabinet decisions include increasing pensions for acid attack victims and transgenders, and raising the allowance for village watchmen.

A two-day special session of the Punjab Assembly will be convened on February 24 and 25, according to Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. This comes ahead of a budget session planned for March, he announced on Thursday.

Cheema, speaking after a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, stated that the session aims to resolve pending bills and legislative matters. Key decisions made by the Cabinet include increasing monthly pensions for acid attack survivors from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000, now also encompassing transgender individuals.

Additionally, the Cabinet has approved a rise in the monthly allowance for 'Chowkidar' or village watchmen, from Rs 1,250 to Rs 1,500. These initiatives reflect the government's commitment to social welfare, as articulated by Finance Minister Cheema.
