Cyber Shakti Strikes: West Bengal's Crackdown on Jamtara Gangs

West Bengal Police arrested 46 individuals linked to the Jamtara gangs involved in phishing and online scams. Under the 'Cyber Shakti' initiative, extensive raids were carried out, leading to the seizure of mobile phones, SIM cards, and credit cards. The action has addressed 90% of statewide complaints.

In a significant breakthrough, the West Bengal Police have arrested 46 individuals allegedly associated with the infamous Jamtara gangs, known for their phishing and online fraud activities, a senior officer confirmed on Thursday.

Under the ambit of the state's 'Cyber Shakti' initiative, law enforcement conducted sweeping raids across Birbhum, Asansol, Durgapur, Chandannagar, and Purba Bardhaman. These operations resulted in the confiscation of 84 mobile phones, an equal number of SIM cards, and over 100 credit and debit cards over a strategic 15-day period.

According to the IPS officer overseeing the operation, those apprehended are all tied to cybercrime activities originating from Jamtara. The gangs have been executing fraudulent schemes across various districts in Bengal's western zone. With credible intelligence, the police executed these raids, substantially curbing the reach of these cybercriminals.
