The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has granted relief to flat owners of 81 apartments facing demolition due to orders issued nearly two decades ago. Residents have been allowed to apply for compounding by paying penalties, a move supported by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA).

The court has expressed its intent to hold LDA officials accountable for failing to enforce the demolition orders against builders who initially caused the issue. Many of the apartment owners were unaware of the long-standing notices and invested their money in good faith.

Justice Rajan Roy and Justice OP Shukla ruled that flat owners should not suffer for builders' faults, staying the demolition of Royal Green Apartment in Mahanagar. The LDA proceeded with demolition following a 2012 PIL, but this latest ruling provides temporary reprieve for residents.
