In a recent report release, Karnataka has emerged as the leading state in fund devolution to panchayats, according to the Panchayat Devolution Index. The report, unveiled by Minister of State for Panchayati Raj SP Singh Baghel, highlights an increase from 39.9% to 43.9% in devolution between 2013-14 and 2021-22.
Baghel emphasized the need for empowering rural local bodies to ensure holistic and sustainable development. He praised Uttar Pradesh for its remarkable leap from 15th to 5th position in the index, attributing the success to innovative transparency initiatives and anti-corruption measures.
The report ranks states and union territories based on their performance. Karnataka is trailed by Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra. While states like Andhra Pradesh and Odisha fall under "medium scoring states," with scores between 50-55, showcasing commendable efforts across various sub-indicators.
