Green Tribunal's Tough Stance on Concretised Parks in Ghaziabad

The National Green Tribunal has refused to undertake an unspecified investigation into parks' concretisation in Ghaziabad, UP, unless specific violations and park details are provided. The plea argued that concreting has reduced greenery, opposing a 2018 order limiting non-green use to 5%. The case is set for May 15.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has dismissed the possibility of conducting an unspecified investigation into the concreting of parks in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, unless precise details on the violations are submitted. The tribunal's bench, led by NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, was examining a petition that claimed the green cover in the parks was diminished due to excessive concreting.

The plea urged the removal of concrete from pavements within the parks, stressing its conflict with the government policy from March 2018, which permits only 5% of park areas for non-green purposes. Acknowledging this policy, NGT noted that Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam did not dispute the 5% limit.

The tribunal clarified that any request for an overarching investigation could not be upheld without specific park details and violation information. The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on May 15.
