Attack on UNIFIL Peacekeepers Prompts Urgent Calls for Justice

The outgoing deputy force commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon was injured Friday after a convoy of peacekeepers was violently attacked en route to Beirut airport, according to a UNIFIL statement.
The mission has called for an immediate investigation and for Lebanese authorities to bring those responsible to justice.
Lebanon's Interior Minister Ahmad al-Hajjar, responding to the assault, has convened an emergency meeting to discuss the security situation and called it a crime against UN forces, stressing the government's commitment to identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators.
