Ugandan General's Provocative Post Sparks Tension with Congo
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda's Defence Forces chief, threatened to attack Bunia in eastern Congo if local forces did not surrender within 24 hours. His statement adds to escalating tensions between Congolese forces and M23 rebels. The general, linked to President Museveni, has a history of making inflammatory remarks.

In a bold statement on social media, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, chief of Uganda's defence forces, issued an ultimatum to forces in Bunia, eastern Congo, demanding their surrender within 24 hours or face an attack. The declaration comes amidst rising regional tensions.
General Kainerugaba, son of President Yoweri Museveni, has garnered attention for his provocative online commentary. His recent threat underscores fears of a broader conflict involving Congolese forces and M23 rebels, believed to be supported by Rwanda, a claim often denied by President Paul Kagame.
This latest development follows reports by Reuters of Uganda deploying over 1,000 soldiers to eastern Congo to combat Islamist militants. Kainerugaba, however, has shown empathy for the M23, calling them "brothers" fighting for Tutsi rights, further complicating regional dynamics.
