In a significant crackdown, the Goa Police have booked an agent, Stanley George, for allegedly facilitating the illegal travel of two locals to the United States. The duo was intercepted at the Mexican border and deported back to India, having been swindled of Rs 18.5 lakh, according to police reports.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Gurudas Kadam, revealed that an FIR has been filed against George, who operates out of Vasco, for charges of fraud. The two individuals, whose identities remain undisclosed, arrived at Amritsar airport along with other deportees on a recent Saturday night flight.
Police interrogation of the duo upon their return to Goa uncovered allegations that George had assured them of employment in the US. This incident is part of a larger scenario, where a US military aircraft landed in Amritsar earlier, carrying multiple deportees, thereby highlighting a concerning trend of illegal immigration.
