The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India is in the process of verifying reports regarding deportation flights to Panama to confirm if the individuals involved are Indian nationals. Once the verification is complete, the Indian government will arrange for their return, said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
This follows indications of a bridge arrangement between the U.S. and Panama, with the latter serving as a transit location for deportees at U.S. expense. Jaiswal noted that India's mission in Panama, also covering Costa Rica, is actively engaging with local authorities to gather more information.
Joint commitments to combat illegal immigration and human trafficking were echoed in a recent statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the U.S. The statement underscores a bilateral resolve to dismantle illegal migration networks and associated organized crime, fortifying the security of both nations.
