Fire Officer Nabbed for Corruption in Ahmedabad

A Ahmedabad fire officer, Inayat Hussain Sheikh, was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 65,000 to issue fire safety NOCs. Sheikh demanded Rs 80,000 from a consultant for building safety NOCs. A complaint led to his arrest under the Anti Corruption Bureau.

An Ahmedabad municipal fire officer has been apprehended on allegations of corruption, according to the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB). Inayat Hussain Sheikh, a divisional fire officer stationed at Prahladnagar, was accused of taking a Rs 65,000 bribe to facilitate the issuance of fire safety No Objection Certificates (NOCs).

The incident unfolded as Sheikh reportedly demanded Rs 80,000 from a consultant managing fire safety equipment installations for government and private buildings. Despite an initial bribe demand being made, the NOC was issued without payment. However, Sheikh later pressured the consultant to settle the remaining amount.

The consultant reported Sheikh's actions to the ACB, resulting in Sheikh's arrest on February 22 when he attempted to collect the remaining Rs 65,000. He faces charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
