China Pushes Back Against EU Sanctions Over Russian Links

China's commerce ministry criticizes the EU for sanctioning Chinese companies linked to Russia, deeming the sanctions unlawful without UN approval. The ministry emphasizes that these actions harm China-EU economic ties and vows protective measures for Chinese enterprises.

In a firm response, China's commerce ministry called on the European Union to cease imposing sanctions on Chinese companies, accusing it of discrediting the nation. This follows the inclusion of Chinese entities and individuals in the EU's recent sanctions targeting Russia.

A ministry spokesperson reiterated China's longstanding opposition to unilateral sanctions that lack international law foundations and UN Security Council authorization. According to the spokesperson, the EU's actions detrimentally affect China-EU economic and trade relations.

The ministry announced that China would undertake necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of its enterprises, signaling a commitment to defend its economic interests against what it sees as unjust external pressures.
