Godrej Properties Caught in Environmental Violation Allegations

Godrej Properties is embroiled in controversy as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registers an FIR against the company for alleged environmental violations on a completed project in Chandigarh. The allegations target both Godrej Estate Developers and Berkeley Realtech Ltd for supposed breaches of wildlife and environmental laws.

The investigation stems from a preliminary enquiry initiated in 2023, based on a complaint from Punjab Raj Bhawan. Notably, the project in question, Godrej Eternia, allegedly conflicts with eco-sensitive zones near the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary. Moreover, accusations include non-receipt of mandatory clearance from the National Board of Wildlife.

An official statement from Godrej Properties expresses surprise over the allegations and contends that the project complied with existing environmental regulations, emphasizing that the required clearances were incorrectly considered violated. Godrej further asserts its commitment to safeguarding customer interests amidst ongoing legal proceedings in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
