The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has voiced serious concerns over the alleged surge in violence against women in the state. The party claims that 1,600 such cases have come to light in the past eight months during the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) rule. To address these concerns, the Congress has established a seven-member fact-finding committee.

This committee, helmed by former minister Nagendra Pradhan, also includes three women members and other distinguished party figures like former MLA Sujit Padhi and legislators Sophia Firdosh and Satyajit Gamang. Their mandate is to travel across various districts in Odisha to closely investigate incidents of atrocities against women.

Deepak Kumar Mahapatra, the Party's Media Coordinator, announced that the committee's findings will be detailed in a report submitted to the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee. This move is part of an urgent call to action by newly appointed OPCC president Bhakta Charan Das, in light of the persistent issue affecting women's safety.
