Prison Clash: Assault Incident in Kannur Women's Jail

The Kannur town police have initiated legal action against two women convicts for allegedly assaulting a Nigerian inmate at the local women's correctional facility. The incident came to light following a complaint by the victim, leading to an FIR against the suspects.

The complainant, Kane Simpou Julie, reported that Sherin, one of the accused, pushed her while she was fetching water, and Shabna, the second accused, verbally attacked her. The altercation reportedly occurred on February 24 and involved offensive language and physical confrontation.

Sherin, a high-profile convict serving a life sentence for the murder of her father-in-law, has been the subject of recent media attention. Last month, a state proposal to the governor recommending her early release triggered significant public backlash.
