Karnataka's Home Minister G Parameshwara has clarified in the Assembly that the state government is uninformed about the gold smuggling racket allegedly involving Kannada actress Ranya Rao. This comes amid ongoing investigations by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Amid mounting allegations, Parameshwara admitted that the state would look into possible lapses by the state police, particularly accusations of protocol privileges being improperly extended to Rao. The contentious issue surfaced during a question raised by BJP MLA Sunil Kumar, alongside claims of two state ministers being involved.

The controversy deepens as Rao, stepdaughter of a police officer, was arrested with gold worth over Rs 12.56 crore. Further investigations have brought to light rumors of a mafia network and potential hawala links, which have sparked calls for clarity and urgent action from state authorities.
