The Bihar assembly on Monday approved by voice vote an appropriation bill amounting to Rs 11,187 crore for implementation across various state schemes in the current financial year. The bill was met with resistance as opposition members staged a walkout, protesting the government's policies.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, who also manages the finance portfolio, spearheaded the presentation of the Bihar Appropriation Bill 2025. Despite the opposition's protest, the bill was passed by voice vote. The funds allocated include Rs 2,938.4 crore for rural development, Rs 1,168.2 crore for education, and Rs 628.37 crore for urban development and housing, among other allocations.
As part of the financial plan, the allocated amount is designated for withdrawal from the consolidated fund for the financial year starting April 1, 2024. Despite its passage, the bill faced criticism from the opposing members who claimed the administration is not effectively addressing poverty-related issues. The assembly also approved the third supplementary budget for the education department.
