Gold Smuggling Scandal: Top Police Officer Under Investigation

The Karnataka government has launched an investigation to uncover the potential involvement of DGP rank officer K Ramachandra Rao in a gold smuggling case. Gaurav Gupta has been appointed as the Additional Chief Secretary to probe the allegations centering around Rao's stepdaughter, Kannada actress Ranya Rao.

According to government sources, gold bars with an estimated value of Rs 12.56 crore were seized from Ranya at Kempegowda International Airport. Further investigations led to the discovery of additional gold and cash at her residence. Officials allege Ranya exploited airport protocol services, courtesy of Rao's influence.

Chief Minister's office confirmed the order for investigation on Tuesday, assigning Gaurav Gupta to report his findings within a week. Authorities are directed to provide full cooperation to facilitate the investigation. Details emerged that Ranya had allegedly smuggled gold from Dubai to Bengaluru, using her father's name and position to bypass security checks at the airport.
