In Assam's Morigaon district, five individuals have been apprehended for possessing counterfeit gold, as confirmed by the local police on Wednesday.

Following a tip-off, law enforcement officials carried out a raid at a hotel on Tuesday night, leading to the arrest of three youths from Uttar Pradesh. They are allegedly involved in the counterfeit gold trade, alongside two local men, as per Morigaon Additional SP Samiran Baishya.

During the operation, the police confiscated Rs 49,000 in cash, 2.283 kg of counterfeit gold, and other related items from the group. Further interrogation led to the arrest of two additional suspects from the Amlapatty area. The suspects have been identified as Vishal Kumar, Ajay Kumar, and Balvinder Singh from Uttar Pradesh, and local residents Abu Hanif and Pinku Kotoki. Investigations into the fake gold racket are ongoing.
