Collision at Sea: Environmental Fears Subside After Tanker Crash

The accident involved the Portuguese-flagged Solong and the larger Stena Immaculate, a tanker carrying jet fuel for the U.S. military. The crash led to significant fires on the Solong, yet major fuel leakage was contained to only two tanks. Concerns arose this week about the risk to protected bird colonies, prompting a vigilant response from environmental agencies.

Amid the ongoing investigation, British police arrested the Russian national captain of the Solong on charges of gross negligence manslaughter. Relations between the West and Russia have been under growing tension since the Ukraine conflict.
