The Karnataka government has retracted an order that directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to look into potential negligence and dereliction of duty by police officers at Kempegowda International Airport related to the gold smuggling case involving actor Ranya Rao.

The CID probe directive had been issued on Monday night, but a subsequent order was given to withdraw it. The withdrawal comes as Additional Chief Secretary Gaurav Gupta is already conducting an investigation into the alleged involvement of Ranya's stepfather, K Ramachandra Rao, a high-ranking DGP officer, in the case.

The inquiry led by Gupta will delve into the misuse of protocol-related facilities and the potential role of Rao in the operation. The investigation follows the seizure of gold bars valued at Rs 12.56 crore from Ranya at the airport, with further searches revealing gold jewelry and Indian currency at her residence.
