The operation concluded a tense standoff that had seen hundreds of hostages taken, with the military reporting that 21 hostages and four security troops were killed during the ordeal.

The Baloch Liberation Army had targeted the Jaffar Express on its route from Quetta to Peshawar, demanding the release of political prisoners and claiming the lives of 50 passengers. Despite these claims, the military ensured that no civilians were killed in the concluding stages of their operation.

The incident highlights the ongoing tensions in Balochistan, where separatist groups seek a greater share in regional resources, often resorting to violence. Junior Interior Minister Talal Chaudhry noted the complexity of the rescue due to militants wearing suicide vests, yet praised the careful execution of the operation that saved many lives.
