A 31-year-old man posing as an IPS officer, Karthik Venugopal, has been arrested in Kochi. He allegedly defrauded women and financial institutions by promising marriage and forging documents. Karthik faces 13 similar charges in Kerala and Bengaluru, and has been handed over for further investigation.

A 31-year-old man, identified as Karthik Venugopal, has been apprehended in Kochi for allegedly disguising himself as an IPS officer to con several women and financial institutions, the police announced on Thursday.

Karthik, also known as Vipin Karthik, is a Malappuram native who was arrested in a local shopping mall by Kalamassery Police under the directives of Kochi City Police Commissioner Putta Vimaladitya, at the request of Bengaluru City Police.

The accused wooed women with marriage proposals, deceiving them financially while also forging documents to secure loans deceitfully. He is wanted in multiple similar cases and has been transferred to Bengaluru for further legal action.
