The Karnataka State Banjara Youth and Student Association has appealed to the district administration for a peace meeting at Malpe fisheries harbour. This request comes in the wake of rising communal tensions following an assault on a Scheduled Caste woman on March 18.

Girish D R, President of the association, expressed concerns on behalf of the Banjara migrant workers employed at the harbour. He condemned the former Fisheries Minister Pramod Madhwaraj, who allegedly incited further conflict during a protest, and former MLA K Raghupathi Bhat for opposing the invocation of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes Act against the accused.

The association stressed the need for immediate intervention to maintain social harmony and protect the interests of the Scheduled Caste community members working at the harbour, urging authorities to take necessary steps to prevent ongoing tensions.
