Lawyers of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association have announced an indefinite strike starting March 25th. This protest follows the Supreme Court collegium's recommendation to transfer Justice Yashwant Varma to the Allahabad High Court, amid an investigation into a cash discovery at his residence.
Bar association president Anil Tiwari confirmed the strike, citing concerns over the judge's proposed transfer and ongoing scrutiny of his past judgments. The Bar is urging other associations, including those in Lucknow, to join the protest.
The recommendation for Justice Varma's transfer was confirmed after alleged cash discoveries were made at his Lutyens Delhi residence following a fire incident. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court collegium, under CJI Sanjiv Khanna, has withdrawn all judicial work from Justice Varma as scrutiny continues.
