Odisha's Civil Defence Drills Test Emergency Preparedness

Odisha conducted civil defence mock drills across 12 districts, including Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, to test emergency preparedness amid rising India-Pakistan tensions. Various agencies participated, demonstrating fire response and evacuation procedures. These drills are part of a nationwide initiative by the Ministry of Home Affairs to enhance emergency readiness.

Odisha has ramped up its emergency preparedness by conducting civil defence mock drills across 12 districts, including major cities like Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. These exercises come in response to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, officials revealed.

In Bhubaneswar, a five-minute siren at 4 PM initiated the drills, where people lay on the ground as fire service teams simulated a controlled blaze and executed rescue operations. Similar activities unfolded in Angul, Balasore, and other districts, showcasing the region's readiness for emergencies.

According to Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh, the drills involved multiple agencies, such as police and fire services, NCC, Army, Bharat Scouts and Guides, and trained volunteers. He emphasized that these initiatives not only prepare the populace but also bolster security forces' morale.
