Six years following the shocking emergence of the Pollachi sexual assault and extortion case, a Mahila Court delivered a landmark verdict, convicting all nine accused and sentencing them to life imprisonment until death.
Judge R Nandhini Devi pronounced the sentence, ordering a compensation of Rs 85 lakh for the eight victims. The accused were identified as Rishwanth alias N Sabarirajan, K Thirunavukkarasu, M Sathish, T Vasanthakumar, R Manivannan alias Mani, P Babu alias 'Bike' Babu, K Arulanantham, T Haronimus Paul, and M Arunkumar. One of the convicted, Arulanantham, was a former AIADMK functionary.
CBI Special Public Prosecutor Surendra Mohan highlighted the meticulous investigation, which ensured none of the witnesses turned hostile. The verdict marked a culmination of a series of horrific incidents that included gang rape and blackmail, bringing justice to the victims who were primarily college students.
