Tensions Escalate in Manipur: Farmer Shot Amidst Ethnic Strife

A farmer in Bishnupur, Manipur was shot while working, as armed men allegedly fired from the hills. This incident is part of ongoing ethnic tensions between the Meiteis and Kukis in the region. Security forces have been deployed, and local protests have resulted in a shutdown in Phubala.

Tensions flared in Manipur's Bishnupur district as a farmer was injured by gunfire while working in the fields. According to officials, armed individuals opened fire from the surrounding hills, escalating the ongoing ethnic strife in the region.

The victim, Ningthoujam Biren, sustained gunshot wounds and was hospitalized. Eyewitnesses reported that the shots were fired from the nearby hills of Churachandpur district.

In response, security forces were dispatched to the area, and local residents protested the violence by calling a shutdown in Phubala, blocking security forces in certain areas.
