A harrowing incident at a Sudanese hospital has left more than 40 dead, including children and healthcare workers, as revealed by the World Health Organization on Tuesday.

The attack occurred Saturday at Al Mujlad Hospital, located in West Kordofan, near a conflict zone between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. These groups have been clashing since April 2023, leading WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to condemn strikes on health facilities, though he refrained from assigning blame.

According to the WHO's Sudan office, the attack resulted in the deaths of six children and five medics and caused significant damage to the hospital. Meanwhile, human rights group Emergency Lawyers alleged an army drone was responsible, providing a differing death toll of nine in a subsequent statement.
