The Centre has unveiled the Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Public Administration 2025, aimed at fostering innovation and competition among India's civil servants. The scheme encourages best practices and good governance with a focus on qualitative achievements over mere quantitative targets.
The awards will evaluate efforts across three categories: holistic development of districts, aspirational blocks programs, and innovations for central ministries and departments. A web portal will be launched on October 2 for nominations, which remain open until April 2025.
The scheme, which includes a monetary incentive of Rs20 lakh for winning districts or organizations, is an effort to instill constructive competition and emphasize good governance, with the final evaluations approved by the Prime Minister himself.
