Meghalaya Boosts Minimum Wage for Workers

Meghalaya has updated its minimum wage structure, effective April 2025, increasing daily wages for unskilled to highly-skilled laborers. The new rates incorporate a Variable Dearness Allowance and apply to 29 employment sectors, with mandatory overtime pay at double the regular rate. Wages will be reviewed biannually.

The Meghalaya government has announced a substantial increase in minimum wages for workers, effective April 1, 2025, according to the latest notification from the Labour department. Unskilled laborers will now earn Rs 541 per day, marking a rise from the previous Rs 525 daily wage.

This revised salary structure includes a Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), which is designed to reflect fluctuations in the inflation rate. The salary increases extend to semi-skilled, skilled, and highly-skilled laborers, who will earn Rs 583, Rs 624, and Rs 665 daily, respectively.

Affected sectors include 29 scheduled employments such as agriculture, construction, and mining. Workers' wages are set for biannual review, ensuring they keep pace with economic changes, while additional work will be compensated at double the standard rate.
