In a tense exchange with law enforcement, a suspected drug peddler was fatally shot, and another individual was detained in Jammu city, officials reported on Thursday. This incident set off a series of protests as the family of the deceased gathered to call for a thorough investigation.
The altercation occurred under the jurisdiction of the Satwari police station. Preliminary findings suggest the police were pursuing the suspects when the team was allegedly fired upon. Tragically, one person was killed in the crossfire, while another sustained injuries and was transported to the Government Medical College Hospital.
Authorities have increased the security presence at the hospital to manage the unrest. Meanwhile, senior police officers have arrived at the scene, launching an official investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shootout.
