Tragedy struck in Uttar Pradesh as two teenage boys were reported to have drowned in Gomti river. The incident took place while they were bathing at a ghat in Jaunpur, officials stated on Thursday.
The victims, Harshit Kumar Mali and Juhaib, ventured into deep waters accidentally, leading to their untimely deaths. Their families began a search when the boys didn't return home by night. Discovery of clothes at the ghat heightened concerns.
A police-led search operation ensued the following day, recovering Harshit's body near Bashirpur and Juhaib's near Chachakpur. The remains have been sent for post-mortem to confirm the cause of death.
