Gold Worth Rs 44 Lakh Seized Near India-Bangladesh Border

BSF recovered four gold pieces worth over Rs 44 lakh near the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal. Acting on intelligence, the BSF seized the gold hidden in bushes. The gold has been handed over for official procedures. Residents are urged to report smuggling tips.

On Wednesday, the Border Security Force (BSF) announced the recovery of four pieces of gold valued at over Rs 44 lakh in West Bengal's Nadia district. The seizure was made by personnel from the 11th battalion of the BSF's South Bengal frontier, following a tip-off.

The gold, weighing 439.23 grams, was discovered in the Baijnathpur area, concealed in a black packet among bushes, just 50 metres away from the India-Bangladesh border. The BSF issued a statement estimating the consignment's worth at Rs 44.40 lakh.

This successful operation resulted in the gold being handed over to the appropriate authorities for further action. The BSF has urged locals to promptly inform about any gold smuggling activities via the 'Seema Sathi' helpline number 14419 or through text messages.
