In a significant move, the Delhi High Court has demanded accountability from the city's police and government on their crackdown against bars, pubs, clubs, and restaurants allegedly functioning illegally without proper licenses. Many of these establishments are reportedly serving alcohol beyond permitted hours.

A bench led by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela has issued notices to the Delhi government and police, instructing them to submit detailed responses on actions taken against these unlicensed operations. The court's decision follows a petition by Mahtab Khan, alleging widespread non-compliance with the Delhi Excise Act.

The petition, represented by senior advocate Kirti Uppal, highlights serious concerns over safety and government revenue loss, as numerous establishments operate late into the night. Violations extend to 21 identified venues flouting licensing laws by continuing operations past 1 am, sometimes until 7 am.
