Fake Vigilance Officials Nabbed in Odisha Heist

A dramatic high-profile heist saw police in Odisha's Kendrapara apprehend six suspects, including a young engineering student, caught posing as vigilance officials to rob a retired doctor’s home. Local law enforcement cracked the case by diligently analyzing call detail records and CCTV surveillance footage.

Reportedly, the accused stormed into Dr Jalil Ahamad Khan's residence, faking credentials as vigilance officers, to perform a sham inspection for undisclosed assets. They absconded with Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and 500 grams of gold jewelry, instructing Khan to show proof of asset legitimacy later at the district vigilance office.

The suspects are now facing serious charges under sections relating to dacoity and house trespass. Following their court appearance where bail was rejected, they have been detained by authorities. Dr Khan, a respected retired physician who chose to serve his native village, was alarmed by the brazen thievery.
