The Yavat village in Pune district witnessed a surge of communal violence, prompting police to file five FIRs against more than 500 individuals. The conflict erupted after a controversial social media post, leading to property damage and the arrest of the post's author, along with 17 others.
Police confirmed that four FIRs involved over 500 people for arson and property damage, while one was filed against the youth responsible for the inflammatory post. Affected properties included a motorcycle, cars, a religious site, and a bakery, prompting police to use tear gas and enforce a preventive order.
Authorities have monitored social media and deployed security forces, including the SRPF, to restore calm. The Maharashtra government has pledged strict action against those inciting unrest through objectionable content, as community leaders work to defuse tensions in the area.
