Court Orders Status Quo on Ghaziabad Demolition Notices

The Allahabad High Court has ordered the continuation of the status quo on demolition notices issued by the Ghaziabad Development Authority regarding alleged illegal properties. The court emphasized the need for a rehabilitation plan for the longstanding occupants, many of whom belong to weaker societal sections.

The Allahabad High Court has intervened in the ongoing dispute over demolition notices issued by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) for properties allegedly built illegally on public land. The court has directed that the status quo be maintained and emphasized the urgent need for a rehabilitation plan for long-standing residents.

A division bench, comprising Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Prashant Kumar, heard a writ petition challenging these demolition notices. The court granted time for the district administration and GDA to present plans for accommodating affected residents, underlining the importance of supporting those from weaker sections of society.

The court criticized the lack of remedial measures to rehabilitate individuals occupying the disputed land for four decades. With a forthcoming hearing set for August 22, the court insists on the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive rehabilitation scheme.
