Tragedy in Budaun: Rainwater Pit Claims Two Lives

In a heart-wrenching incident, two brothers lost their lives after drowning in a rainwater-filled pit in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Budaun district, officials confirmed on Monday.

The tragic event unfolded on Sunday evening in Bens village, under the Bilsi police station area. Navneet, aged 13, Bhuvneshwar, aged 10, and Amar, aged 11, had entered the pit to cool off after heavy rains, unaware of the depth and peril it posed. Local residents made heroic efforts to rescue them and swiftly transported the children to a community health center.

Despite their efforts, doctors declared Navneet and Bhuvneshwar dead on arrival. Amar was subsequently referred to the district hospital in critical condition. Police officials noted the hazard created by recent rains, which filled the pit unexpectedly. As a response, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ripudaman Singh confirmed the district administration's intention to grant financial relief to the victims' families through the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. An inquiry has been launched to investigate the failure to fill or secure the hazardous pit.
