Senator Cotton Questions Intel CEO's Chinese Ties amid National Security Concerns

U.S. Republican Senator Tom Cotton has questioned Intel's new CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, regarding his ties to Chinese firms and a recent criminal case involving his former company, Cadence Design. Cotton sent a letter to Intel's board expressing concerns about the implications for U.S. national security.

Cotton asked Intel's chairperson, Frank Yeary, about the board's awareness of subpoenas sent to Cadence during Tan's leadership. He inquired if Tan had disclosed ties to Chinese companies and divested from those linked to the Chinese military, especially given Intel's role in the Secure Enclave program.

Intel, receiving federal funds under this initiative, was urged by Cotton to be a responsible steward of U.S. taxpayer money. In response, Intel stated its commitment to national security and promised to address the Senator's concerns. Meanwhile, Cadence settled charges for illegal sales to a Chinese military university, shedding light on Tan's past leadership.
