An incident of vigilante justice spiraled into chaos late Friday night in Nayagaon when an irate mob mistakenly accused two men of theft, attacking them with sticks.
The victims, Fahim and his relative Firoz, were returning from a 'Chehlum' procession when stopped and beaten by the angry crowd. Despite their protests of innocence, the mob was relentless.
Police intervention arrived quickly, escorting the injured men to the station. However, tension escalated as a large crowd gathered outside demanding their release, resorting to violence when denied. Police forces restored order using tear gas, and the situation is now controlled, officials confirmed.
